Frustration! Refusal after 9 months

We have been waiting for many, many months for my spouse visa and after 9 months I have been rejected.

Call after call we have been making to speed up the application with them telling us that it was “under review” or being escalated.

It has been so tiring and upsetting. So what can we do now?

Sorry to hear you’ve been rejected.

Unfortunately calling UKVI won’t really help. The number you’re calling is a 3rd party company that the government outsources to. It’s believed they have no access to your information and as such can’t help in any way.

If anything, they’re put in place so that UKVI don’t have to deal with people whilst they’re processing visas.

As to what you can do, it really depends on your refusal reasons. Can you share them or the letter you received (remove any personally identifying information)?

Essentially, we got married online due to complications with travel and we had the opportunity to vary our application to a fiancee visa but we decided against it because we are already married in Pakistan. I can’t see the point in marrying twice and I don’t know what legal complications this might cause.

We were refused because we married online and this is not accepted in the UK.

Can I appeal and have them reconsider? I have already provided my marriage certificate to prove that this is a real marriage.

I don’t want to reapply because it will take many more months.

From what you’ve said, it’s not really clear what’s happened.

So, you were married online - have you met face-to-face or have you never met each other?

I don’t understand what you mean by having to marry twice though. Can you clarify?

Whether you can appeal or not will depend on the specifics of your rejection.

An appeal could take longer!
